Narratiivi on monimutkainen ja kiinnostava ihmiskunnan tilan tutkimus, ja se on kirjailijan taitoon kuuluva, että se tuntuu sekä syvältä Norsun muisti että universaaliselta ja ymmärrettävältä. Kun suljin kannen tämän kirjan päällä, en voinut olla tuntematta pettymystä, sen virheiden muisto jäi lataa kauan lukemisen jälkeen.

“Mikä tekee tiettyjen kirjojen tuntuvan niin relevantilta ja ajankohtaiselta, vaikka ne on kirjoitettu monia vuosia sitten? Joskus tempojako tuntui hieman finlandia kirja mutta tarina oli tarpeeksi kiinnostava pitämään minut kiinnostuneena lopputulemasta. Se ei ollut sitä, mitä odotin, mutta juuri se on osa sen vievää voimaa. Ytimeltään tämä romaani on tarina ihmisen tilasta, rakkaudesta, menetyksestä ja toivon kestävästä voimasta, teemoista, jotka ovat yleismaailmallisia, mutta jotka esitetään tässä tuoreesti ja kirjan mikä tekee matkasta sekä syvän henkilökohtaisen että yleismaailmallisesti samaistuttavan.

Kirjoittaminen oli yksinkertaisesti henkeäsalpaavaa, jokainen Norsun muisti ja kappale toimivat Norsun muisti luomaan kauniin, hätkähdyttävän kerronnan, joka jäi mieleen suomeksi sen jälkeen, kun olin lopettanut lukemisen. Yksi tämän kirjan ulottuvimmista näkökohdista on sen kyky tasapainottaa aivonenpitoista ja tunteellista, luoden lukukokemuksen, joka on sekä stimuloiva että liikkuttava. Henkilöt ilmaiset ymmärrettäviä ja hyvin kehitettyjä, kiinnostuksesta kierteessä psykologiseen monimutkaisuuteen.

Lyndall Gordonin elämäkerta on mestariteos, Norsun muisti yhdistää historiallisen tarkkuuden romaanin jännitykseen. Löysin itseni syvällisesti Emily Dickinsonin e-kirja huolimatta hänen elämänsä myrskyisästä taustasta. Hahmot olivat moniulotteisia ja samaistuttavia, heillä oli lataa ja vahvuuksia, jotka teki heistä tuntuvan täysin inhimillisiltä, harvinainen saavutus missä tahansa fiktiivisessä teoksessa.

Mutta kirjallisuutta todella erottaa suomalainen Norsun muisti muista on sen halukkuus haastaa oletuksiamme, pakottaa meidät kohtaamaan ennakkoluulojamme ja syrjintää, joita emme edes ole tietoisia. Juoni oli monimutkainen ja kompleksinen, jännittävä ja jännä tarina, joka piti minut jännityksessä.

Kun käänsin viimeisen sivun, tunsin surun, kuin olisin sanonut hyvästit vanhalle ystävälle. Kirjoitus on kaunista ja vaikutusvaltaista, sen vahva paikallinen ja ilmapiiri vetää lukijaa sisään ja kieltäytyy päästämästä irti.
